Tooling up a mill

Nice tools there Darren!

I'm glad I talked Jeff into stocking both the Style 1 and Style 2 tool holder blocks in that CA/400 series size. He had told me that I'd probably be the only one buying the Style 1 that is just flat-bottomed on the tool slot. The Style 2 has the V-groove on the bottom for boring bars, but that can make them hard to use when holding smaller HSS turning tools between blocks of steel clamped in the holder.

As for edge finders, I have 3 of the Starrett No.827's and am happy with them. I run mine at 1000 to 1200 rpm, that seems to be the ideal range. I've heard very good things about the Fisher Machine products, also glad Jeff stocks & sells those. Fisher also makes nice little V-blocks that compare favorably with Starrett No.278 and Brown & Sharpe No.750's.

I've always looked for the kick, didn't even know they clicked. Although it's doubtful I could hear it with the mill noise, radio etc.
