Last one for some time I think. The anodized aluminum plate is 3/4" x 9.5" x 20". The front one is 1/2" aluminum plate.

I see lots of sawing in your future, Ed.

Unless you use them as fixturing plates, I imagine you'll be cutting stock out of those around the existing holes and pockets to get "blanks" worthy of machining some solid pieces. Is that the plan, or are you just going to sell off for scrap?

Your sight is keen Ken. I will be cutting it up for blanks. I'll wait until it warms up a bit and get the proper band saw blade for cutting aluminum to use on my woodworking band saw which is out in the garage. No way can the 5x6 metal cutting band saw handle the task.

Ed, I usually leave stock like that "as is" until I need it. Too many times have I gone to my "pre-trimmed" stock only to find it's just a hair too small, or "those holes would have been machined away anyway".
That may 'splain why my inventory is such a scrap heap

Yup, trimming it is very low on the list of things to do so I don't think I'll run into that problem.

I've been watching the Bay for quite some time, looking for a better fan to cool my lathe's motor (when the VFD's stopped or set below 30Hz, easy to do with one of its programmable relays), always naff, too expensive, too far away and a couple of limbs to post to me...

Like buses, wait all day and four come at once - EBMPapst 10" equipment fans thrown in the scrap electricals skip out the back at work, on a 3-year preventive maintenance schedule although they've been in equipment that only kicks in for its annual test... October 2011 manufacture  date stamps on the back...

All now tested and working fine ( yes, on the bedroom floor! The floor's clear because they blew all my clothes into a corner, who needs a leaf-blower when you have a sock-blower?), next test will be the gallon capacity ultrasonic cleaner that was next to 'em in the skip...

EDIT: Just looked them up online, Digikey/Mouser put them at about $180 each... Must be nice being a government agency with all that tax to spend!

Another little treat from The World's Geekiest Skip...

Not sure what I'll do with it (I already have a couple of small rotary tables), but it has a stepper motor attached, and it's mounted on a nice dovetail slide, so... part of a tool and cutter grinder, perhaps?

There's some backlash in the worm n wheel, but it looks like nobody has ever tried toadjust it!
