No worries Ed - my welder fills in the gaps for me
If I remember, I'll post some pics of the finished welds and not just the spot welds. The spot welds are great whilst you are getting everything square and you can generally bust them off without too much grief. It isn't much fun when you have laid down 2" of nice hot bead and then find out you are out of kilter!

I looked on the web site and the steel for the shelves is 16 gauge (1.5mm thick).
I'm going to get some steel bent up for the top three shelves - I don't think it will be that expensive. DaveH

I noticed that the Grainger website listing for the stock rack does read 16 gauge and a total weight of 110 pounds (50kg.) and they're stating a country of origin as being Mexico, and powdercoated finish.
Mine was made in USA, it's painted gray (not powdercoated) and seems a bit heavier than that. I'll measure the shelves on mine, I think they're more like 14 gauge (0.064", just over 1.6mm) thick. I'll let you know.

Going to see the guy that bends the sheet metal is always an eventful couple of hours.
He is the most miserable sod I have ever come across, he f's at the customers tells them to f'off and all sorts. No sense of humour whatsoever. A regular nutter but it is convenient for me because he's only 3 miles down the road. This is how the conversation with him will go "Hi (with a big friendly smile) can you bend some sheet metal for me PLEASE" "Go and see George" George (great guy ) works for him. So I go next door and see George. Now if I go straight to see George all hell breaks loose - he'll swear rant and rave as to why you are in there and you will have to leave because he will not serve you. He sells all sorts and sizes of sheet metal and he will cut it and bend it for you but he will only bend the metal you buy from him. Just don't tell him it's the wrong size or not bent correctly. It takes assorts I suppose. DaveH |
