Looking great Ed, is the ground angle of the cutter off or just the cutter alignment?
Free advice is worth exactly what you payed for it.

Greg,

The ground angle of one side is off just a hair. Easy enough to fix, I think.

Yes....none. I worked mine dry. It cuts into tiny chips.

While in the Navy we used white lead.  Good luck finding it.  Big Grin

That 660 bronze machines really nice Ed, you'll have no trouble with it dry. Blow the chips out between passes or better during the pass if you can.

Getting back to this project now. I had to reassemble the mill to take some measurements to make sure the new design for the nut assembly would fit. It does, but with little room for error. I think I've got all of the dimensions figured out and now I'm ready to make the nuts.

The nut housing will be using tapered pins to hold one of the nuts from turning just like Greg's nut. I've never used a taper pin and am wondering what size hole would you drill for the tapered reamer? The small diameter of the pin?

Nice drawings Ed. Measure the small end of the pin itself, and drill that size. The small end of the reamer is probably smaller. You could take the holes right through, would allow chips out as you ream and room for a punch if you need to extract them.
