I would rather you fixed / modified the heat treat furnace thats just in shot , I would like it calibrated for a Lazy Englishman
Cheers Rob
Come on now Rob - you can do that in your sleep.
If things go according to plan, I'll be building myself another (deeper) one. I'm spoiled now so I would like to have a second furnace for tempering so I don't have to wait for the high-temp furnace to cool down overnight. And if I'm going to build one anyway, I might as well make it so it holds larger (longer) parts.
Oh and Sheldon Stan, the jig-borer comment was just sarcasm / a joke...

Needed to switch over to the 4-jaw chuck on the lathe. After getting it all cleaned up and mounted on the lathe spindle, I went to grab the chuck key and couldn't find it. Did my target search pattern 4 times and found a handful of 3/8" chuck keys but the 7/16" key for the 4-jaw up and disappeared.
So I had to make one instead. Two actually (front & center). Figured while I was at it, I might as well make a shorty too for working two jaws together to save time.
Thanks for posting about the 7/8" 4140 HT rounds in the "fire sale" last year Ed! I made good use of some of it today...

That's OK, I don't think Rob caught it either. He didn't give me the "bird" smiley in return - yet....

Willie , have you had a look here of ideas https://www.usaknifemaker.com/knife-maki...-c-57.html f .
I reckon a bigger heat treat oven could be made quite cheaply . There has been a fair few times over the years I could have done with a larger capacity oven , now my furnace is gone it looks like I may have to make one to .

Cheers Rob! I already have a plan of what I am going to do. More like a "tube" furnace I guess. Just like my small furnace but deeper so I can get longer items in there. (Approx 14 inches.)
I was going to make a digital controller for my lead furnaces and have the necessary electrical components, but will use that for the new "tempering" furnace instead. I just got a message from an ebay seller accepting my offer for some NOS heating elements.
I'll need to build an enclosure and get some insulating firebrick, but that is on hold now because I need to buy some new bearing$ for my mill instead.

So that's what I can use that stuff for. I've been meaning to make a couple of short keys for the 4-jaw.
