I may have gone with that second one if I had seen it back when I was looking. Thanks for the links but I think I'll continue on with my project. Those links might help somebody in the future though.

I got some work done on this project this week. I finished the arbor. I started out with what you see in the first picture. I bought two of those off of ebay eons ago for dirt cheap. They have an MT-2 taper. At the time I bought them, I had intended to use one in an indexer project, that's why I bought them.
Check out the cool chatter pattern on that puppy.
I used the Nikcole Mini System to cut the groove. It cut it like butter.
Next step is to get back to the main body now that I've got a diameter for the arbor that I can measure.
