Building Christmas presents.
Julia uses and collects fountain pens so we made a storage box out of cherry. Still need to add dividers to the drawers and get a flocking kit to make a fake felt cover in them.

Another present in the works.
Charlie is always working on a bicycle so santa is bringing him a bike work stand.
This mounts on a 2 inch vertical tube and clamps the frame.
The jaws will be lined with leather for a non marring surface, the lead screw was salvage from a car scissor jack, the claps are split cotters.

I went ahead and tried taking a skim cut with a 1" 4-flute HSS endmill. MUCH better!  

   

   

Time to get the ring off of the arbor and turn it into a broach bushing.

Meh. No shiny cameras here I'm afraid. The ratchet pads are now .010" under size in height since I had to cut out the chatter marks from the other end mill. You can still see small ghost areas on some of them because I wanted to trim off as little as necessary to get them 'flat'. There are a few 'witness marks' that remain but the press won't care. Ten thou won't make a bit of difference to the press handle or ratchet pawl. It's like a honey badger....

I think the difference in material strength will more than make up for the slightly smaller dimensions of the teeth/pads.
It's just the principal of the thing - you know?

But as I said before.... I NEED the practice! Obviously.
