Last night I got the Jeep ready for our monthly Jeep club trail run.  I pulled the Jeep in the shop and checked the fluids and ran a vacuum through it.


I then put it on the lift and gave the undercarriage a good once over.


A few months ago I machined a base plate to mount a 3-jaw chuck to my 8" Vertex rotary table for a project.  I had to improvise to mount the chuck as I didn't have any T-nuts that were the correct size.  I didn't want to place an order for only four T-nuts so I just decided to machine them.

I had some time left over last night before the wife got home so I grabbed a piece of bar stock from my scrap pile and clamped it in the mill vise.


Taking it down to size.


Now that it is to size I can drill/tap the threads and take the two sides down.


Hopefully tonight I can take a half our or so and finish them up.

Could be, but if it was to be a helicopter part I'd expect it was rolled material to get grain. Do they cast anything in n aircraft chassis or is it all billet work.

Greg, what makes you think that piece of material was originally intended to become a helicopter part? Just curious. I would think a plant like that would make a lot of their own tooling fixtures as well.

I've replaced a bunch of of aircraft parts, but can't say I've ever made any, so I don't have a clue if they use any cast aluminum for making/forging parts.

What did I do today? A lot of this:

                 

Spent all day trying to find a 12,46 x 28 x 8mm ball bearing. (6001/012Z)
NOT HAPPENING!  

Has anybody tried grinding the ID of the inner race on a deep groove ball bearing before? (sigh...)

Oh how I would love to get my hands on the Honda engineer(s) that came up with that one!
