Onward ------ Those in pic #1 are 4140 Cam blanks and gears. In pic #2 are the front and rear crankcase parts. 2024 X 5.25 Diameter. One is 3.000 long the other 4.25 long. They will be reduced in weight some 80% when completed.

Looks like a lot of hogging on the horizon. Were those gears made by your buddy with the gear shaper or are they off the shelf?

The gears are Boston G677 off the shelf Tom.

Ref the question about pining the crank pins. On the 500 singleI used a slot drill to make a hole on the line of the joint,
and fitted a grub screw.

It has taken many hours to get the boring done. Eleven days on and off. Average of 7 hours per day. No hogging Tom, the mill was tied up with another job. The last picture here is the Front and Rear Cases mated for the first time.

My mill is tied up at present with a friends project. I needed a rest anyhoo. Looking down the bore of the mated pieces is something to see. The mated parts are faced to length in the second pic.

You can see the two cylinder bank locations and the very rear is the blower housing. Done for today, unexpected company.

Out of the lathe at last. Documented 126 hours. No hogging in the mill Tom, all lathe work. There will be plenty to do in the mill these are only 60% complete.
