Precision Matthews PM-25MV Mill

I ran a Mitutoyo DTI over the length of the table and am happy with the results. Starting from the right end of the table and moving towards the left it quickly goes from zero to .0005 and stays at that for most of the way until it gets close to the left end. Then it gradually goes to .0015. I can live with that. I'm going to tram the head today and fire it up and see what happens.

I'm going to start disassembling the mill to reassemble it on the pallet for its return trip to Precision Matthews. They're paying for the shipping.

I called and talked to Matt this morning after sleeping on it and I decided to return the PM-25MV for a full refund and order the PM-728V-T without the DRO.

It should be here toward the end of next week. I'll then put the PM-25 mill onto the pallet that the PM-728 is shipped on, per Matt's suggestion, and it will ship back to Precision Matthews. After pricing the cost of 1/4" plywood needed to reconstruct the crate for the PM-25, that saves me a bunch of money. That's if I could find plywood down here. It's getting scarce.

I think you have made the correct decision Ed. I hope they discounted the price difference between the two machines.

I did like this in the spec sheet: T Slot Size Actual size 12mm, our 1/2″ kit listed is sized for this machine. Does this mean that other 1/2" t-nuts will be too big and that you will need to purchase the set from them?

I'm happy with my decision to return the Chinese mill and getting the Taiwanese mill instead, even if I did have to forego the DRO. I can always add it later.

The T-slots in the PM-25 are that same size. I was prepared for it and bought some 7/16" wide T-nuts for it. They fit and are usable but I'd like some with a better fit so I'm going to make my own when I have a usable mill. 1/2" definitely is too big so I don't know what they mean by their statement.

The 12mm T-Nuts measure .489", probably rounding off to .500. I have a set of them.

When I talked to Matt on Wednesday he told me that 30% of the cost of the PM-25 was a tariff. I was pretty surprised that it was that high. Luckily there's no tariff on Taiwan products.
