I seem to recall someone saying to use acetone to smooth PLA prints back when I first started printing. Of course I read that after I stopped using PLA and went to ABS.

Acetone smoothing is for ABS. PLA will just deform if left in long enough. But you really have to soak it.
No chemical degree, only my experience.

Just looked in the cabinet and now I know why I was thinking it was for PLA. I bought a product from Smooth-On called XTC-3D which is a brush on smoothing coating for PLA, ABS, foam and a bunch of other things. Still haven't opened it. Guess it shows how long since I've 3D printed anything, either with the filament or the liquid resin.
I do have a laser engraver/cutter coming tho, so that should be fun.

He was going to buy one for his mom and didn't know anything about them. Neither did I but I researched them and they look like they'd be a fun tool to have. Ed

It's the omtech K40. Unlike the other K40s tho, this one has the upgraded controller which makes it compatible with U Axis (rollers) and the LightBurn software (they have windows, mac and linux versions). According to fedex it's supposed to be here tomorrow, but I've heard that from fedex before!
I've been printing t-shirts, hats, koozies, ... lately and just got a new hat press that will do leather patches, so this cutter/engraver will be able to make the patches for me. It'll also cut the twill material that my main supplier has and if it's laser cut it doesn't need to be sewn - which is good 'cuze I don't sew! It will also do glass, plexiglass, acrylic, wood, ... One of my other suppliers has the acrylic award material so I can do those if I get energetic.
