Precision ball bearings?

I probably made a crossref mistake, but there are bogus bearing mfr's out there. $100 for ABEC-7 anything, suspiciously cheap. Otherwise, where do I sign up?

In the end, I went back and looked in my owners manual for the mill to see what it showed for part numbers. What is shows is a plain bearing number and "(sealed)".

So why does my mill have "open" P5 bearings in it from the factory??? It makes no sense. Yes, OK it's an Asian mill so what did I expect right?

Screw it.... I ordered a pair of "normal" Timken bearings and I'm done thinking about it. Anything else above that is "special order" unless your last name happens to be Trump and you can afford thousand dollar bearings.

I just don't care anymore. Everything has to be a freaking battle to get parts for these days.

Willie - your last post reminded me of buying the spindle bearings for my mill. I'm on my phone on the train to work right now so I don't have the details at hand but I recall a certain tolerance was called for on the top bearing . One supplier quoted me a fraction of the cost of other supplies and when I asked him if it was a P? his response was that all bearings were now manufactured to that spec as standard now. I was working from 40 year old drawings.

You know what? I got that feeling too after looking at a BUNCH of bearing catalog listings. One manufacturer (don't remember which one now) went so far as to make a list showing bearings with large ID's down to a certain size are ALL ABEC-1. The next range of smaller ID's were ALL ABEC-2, etc., etc, with the smallest bearings being ALL ABEC-9.  
A couple of other companies seem to show the same pattern as well. I just don't know.

And as usual the dark cloud is still hanging over my head. I found the Timken bearings on the Amazon web site EARLY this morning and ordered them. It clearly said "2 remaining IN STOCK" and listed as PRIME (two-day shipping) so I ordered the two. This evening I went back to check on my order and it says "not processed yet". I look at the expected delivery date and it says MARCH 4th!    WTF???? I go back to the page, and now the "IN STOCK" is gone along with the PRIME shipping. This is the 3rd time they have pulled this on me. I canceled the order and found them at Motion Industries and ordered a pair, but now I have to pay an extra $18 in sales tax and UPS shipping! But I'll only have to wait TWO WEEKS to get them instead of four, for 2 bearings that they ALSO say are IN STOCK.  

I just cannot win, no matter what it is.

Edit: Oh wait they just changed it again. Now it says free shipping and IN STOCK again - but will take 1-2 extra days to process. Nope, fool me once.... Where is that bird smiley again?

Wait a minnit. You found a place that had two. You bought two and were surprised they suddenly had none left? Then you cancelled the order and they, once again, suddenly had two left?

One thing to remember this time of year. If the vendor is Chinese, whether they're living overseas or are in the states, this is the Chinese New Year and most have gone on their annual holiday much like when we take our Christmas break.

Not exactly Vinny. I ordered two items that are eligible for Amazons PRIME service. We pay Amazon $100 per year to get "Free" two-day shipping for any PRIME item. What surprised me was that after I ordered these items that they claimed to have in stock they turn around and tell me it's going to take a MONTH to get them??? Nope, uh-uh. That's not what I'm paying for. I'm paying for two day guaranteed delivery.

I've got a machine sitting here in pieces, and they want me to wait a month? I don't think so. Somebody screwed up, plain and simple. And it just cost them a sale. Most any other time if they have it in stock I would have a tracking number already. I've been burned too many times by places that sell me something, and then two weeks later cancel the order and not tell me they were out of stock the whole time!

I think I need a Christmas Break right now myself.

Ooooooooh. Then I'm guessing the vendor is actually overseas and not disclosing that fact to amazon or anyone else. I ordered some batteries from a guy on ebay once that claimed to be in California but was really in China. I complained to him when it didn't show up when he said it would and he refunded my money and still shipped the batteries - even told me that I could keep them after he issued the refund.
