Madding Threading Tool Search
#1
The day has been hard, between watching/doing the OSHA 10 hour safety course on line and the madding search for a certain threading tool, today had been real bad.

The OSHA course is down right boring, almost to the point of praying for a heart attack or some other serious ailment , so I wouldn't have to continue.

The search for a MTVOR 10-3B lathe tool was down right frustrating. I was given a healthy supply of stand-on-edge inserts (TNMC 32 NV) for nothing, so all I needed was the tool. I called about 4 manufacturers, which led me to 6 distributors, then to numerous retail units all to no avail. Usual responses were, 3-4 weeks, we don't sell to individuals, and the "best" was 2 day delivery at $145. I finally found the tool, sitting in a warehouse in Salt Lake City. The supplier (outside of Phoenix, AZ) will have it to me by Thursday, it free shipping and handling, my cost of about $62 for the piece made by Dorian.

At least your perseverance paid off in finding the tool, and at a more reasonable price. Thumbsup

Did you search through Ebay? There's always a lot of tooling there and I've gotten some fantastic deals that way.

Ken,

EBay is a problem, after I got screwed by EBay/PayPal for about $800, they are really the last people I go to. If I can buy without using PayPal, then I might consider it.

Some people have great luck with the evil twins, mine had been dismal.

That's a nice looking threading tool Jack. Is the shaft size 5/8"?

Ed,

yes, the shank is 5/8" x 5/8", the tool is in a $8 CDCO AXA block that I opened up to accept a 5/8" tool.

Thanks Jack. I wondered how you got a 5/8" shank into an AXA tool holder. It looks like you replaced the set screws that came with the tool holder. I did the same since the ones that came with it where of very poor quality.
