Accessories & Tools Advice

Thanks Ed. That's how I read it too. That means that I don't have to purchase a separate drawbar to use with the MT2 collets or other tools with M10 threads?

The way I read it you CAN'T use MT2 collets or other tool (holders) with M10 threads if they are internally threaded.17428

Wong,

Like Ed has said it is a draw bar (of sorts) but the nice bit it also allows for a much gentler release. Where as I have to hit the top of the draw bar to release the tool holder you just use the allen wrench to release it.

Here you go, Dave:

Wabeco Mill Manual

The pages I extracted were from page 19 to 20. The model I'll be getting in the next few hours is F1200.

Hi Steve,

Are you referring to this para?

Quote:It is not possible to insert a tool or tool holder with internal threads into the work spindle first and to screw the tool retaining/forcing screw into the internal thread afterwards! The tool or tool holder must be screwed onto the tool retaining/forcing screw.

If it is, I read it as having to screw the tool retaining/forcing screw into the spindle first and screw in the tool or tool holder with internal threads M10 onto the tool retaining/forcing screw. The tightening is done using the allen wrench and the retaining bolt (referred to as holding pin in the text while the diagram uses the term retaining bolt) to draw in the tool/tool holder.

The Sherline folks have done similar modification to their mills using a thin downed nut to squeeze out the tool holders from the taper. Some use a rod inserted into the spindle bore from above, fastened it to the top of the spindle, and turn to break the taper.

Yes Dave. Hours... I slept at about 2am this morning. Got up at 6am and couldn't go back to sleep.... Chin

My shop is still in a mess but I managed to clear out a space for the mill. The rest of the reorg will be done bit by bit so that more of my machines can be used at one time. I've to officially declare that I'm out of space... Slaphead But the Jet Metal Bandsaw looks attractive and the distributor here is willing to give me a big discount... sigh...

As you guys know, I was looking online and a little offline for tooling to create a list of what I need. With the current weak Euro against the Sing dollar, Wabeco's tools and accessories looks so much more attractive than UK or US. Shipping and mode of payment are the 2 big hurdles from buying direct. Stuff from SG are really expensive. Take for instance the clamping set I just bought. Wabeco is selling their 58-piece set at EUR37.82 as listed on their site. I bought the Taiwanese Matchling 52-piece set at EUR102.72 with tax included. I don't know if shipping and the charges on telegraphic transfer will add up to the difference of EUR64.90.

After tooling up the mill, I'm looking at glass scale with DRO. There is an eBay seller whose price seems attractive. But I'll still have to pay the same hefty shipping cost though the seller is located in SG. They replied to my email saying that the goods are stored in China and therefore the shipping.

That is the paragraph I was referring to. After re-reading it several times I think I understand it. SorryBlush.

Hello Steve,

No apologies needed. It took me awhile to understand it as I've drawbar in mine when going through the manual.

The mill came in this morning. I'm out with the family. Will post some pics in a while.

Regards,
Wong.
