Ed, I'd be interested in a link to where you purchased the R8 flycutter (assuming there are more available)? Need one myself.

Any of them come with standards?

Unfortunately no, but I see them for sale from time to time. Thinking about it, I don't have standards for any of my mics... I have checked some of them with the gage blocks.

Here you go Pete. From McMaster-Carr in the USA. Not sure if they ship international. If they don't and you want one let me know and I'll order it and ship it to you.

Fly Cutter

Not a bad price for a made in the USA fly cutter. Chin

I use https://www.ebay.com/usr/bearingworld . Multiple purchases over the past few years, with never a problem and always a good price.
Full of ideas, but slow to produce parts

Thanks. Looks like a good place but sadly they don't offer angular contact bearings. I found the seller that Ed used and put in an offer for a couple of no-drag rubber sealed bearings from SKF, but they are listed as "open boxes". It's all they had in that particular bearing. They haven't responded either way as of yet.

No response, they let the offer expire. Back to searching elsewhere.

I have used http://www.bearingsdirect.com a couple of times. They have SKF 7206BEP that I used on my mini lathe. I got a pair of them for $70.23 shipped.

That's a good price. It looks like they got rid of the free shipping though. $9.75 to ship to my address. I had to pay $83 with free shipping.

Oh, and  Welcome  to the forum Suitcase!

Hi Suitcase, welcome to the forum. Welcome

I didn't want to use open bearings for the spindle and chose to go with rubber seals instead since there is no easy way to re-lube the bearings as needed. I just bit the bullet and ordered a pair of SKS 7206BE- 2RZP bearings from Quality Bearings Online based in the UK. The new sealed in the box bearings were $5 cheaper (each) than what the ebay seller wanted for his open box (AKA: questionable) bearings. Smiley-signs140

Buy once - cry once and I'm done, and don't have to think about them collecting grit or losing grease over time. Now I'm debating on if I want to switch to metal gears inside the head stock instead of the plastic gears while it's apart. Chin

That's what I should have done also. My bad.  Blush

I wonder why they're so much cheaper from this place in Ireland? $71.59 including shipping to Arizona for two bearings. Chin

Yikes

Woah! I should have kept searching. That is one heck of a deal!  It cost me just over double that from the UK. Slaphead

Oh well, too late now for me. Still beats the $130 per bearing from the major suppliers in the USA.  Bleh

I guess it depends on which manufacturing facility they come from. I think SKF bearings are made in several different countries.
