Thanks Stan - This was no find on my part but a generous offer of sale from Pete O. He could have got a lot more money by putting it on eBay or Gumtree but he offered it to me instead. Thanks Pete

I rescued this from the dumpster at work; three sheets of .038" 304 stainless with about 14"x18" of usable metal. I'm sure to find a use for it somewhere...

Got this at an auction. Can't see much of the metal. The bins near the top are empty, which was actually good 'cuze the ones at the bottom were really overstuffed and had to be split up among the empty ones. Turns out most of the steel was tool steel, some marked D-2, some not. There were a number of rounds in there, 2" dia, 5.250" long. Some were still in packages that were marked. SF-2050. I had never heard of it before and it took awhile to find a datasheet on it. I finally did and here's what it says about it:
Quote:SF-2050 The hardness range is: Super Hard BHN: 355-390; HRC: 38-42; N/mm squared: 1202-1322. The shelving unit came with it, I really didn't want it and some guy picking up his stuff offered me $50 for it. It's his now!

almost forgot, there was also a box of springs of all sizes - including the right size to replace the broken ones in my shop press!

Nice score! That D2 is tough stuff. Some knifemakers like it.
