Cleaning Tools ...

i use 3in1 oil generously on the micrometers. i had a barrel freeze up on me that i still have not freed up. i rotate them every once in a while if need be or not now too.

I happened across another ad on Craig's List and I am not sure if I got carried away or not. The fellow had a large number of items from his father’s estate. Most of it is new with the rust preventions chemicals and paper still on them. I just sort of kept saying “I think I can use that”. About $440 later this is what I came home with and am wondering if I should have buyer’s remorse or not.

Even thought my mill has ISO 30 tapers on it I took the R8 items as either the shaft could be replaced or I would use my ISO 30 to R8 adapter. I am not impressed with the latter option as the adapter is quite long but I thought it was at least a workable solution.

Nice haul! The second picture down, is that a Morse taper to 5C adapter? It looks like that group could be a 5C collet closer for the lathe.
Third picture down, what's in the wooden boxes with the lids slid open?

Is any of that stuff name brand or is it all import? If those collets are name brand they would cost you a ton of money for that many collets.

If some of those R8 face mills are the type that screw on to an R8 arbor then you could get the proper ISO 30 arbor for those and get good use out of them with no adapter.

I measured the adapter and it seems to be an MT5 to 5C adapter. It came as part of the closer ... the other pieces in the picture ... and it seems to fit the spindle of my G4003 lathe nicely. I may need to fabricate the fulcrum for the closer lever at the back of the lathe but all in all appears to be much less work than having to build one from scratch.

They are single hole 1-2-3 blocks still in the wrapper. Also in that picture are alpha and numeric stamps, several types of parallels still in the wrapper, what appears to be a 3 inch three jaw chuck that can be removed from what appears to be a 5C collet and an inexpensive test indicator.

The less populated rack ... by 16ths ... has Taiwan marked on them but not other name. The fuller rack ... by 32nds ... doesn't have anything on them. I assumed most of it was from Enco and was import

The three largest ones have removable arbors and the three smaller ones do not. Regretfully the "Automatic Boring Head" in the left rear of the picture does not seem to have a removable arbor, but I have not taken it apart yet so who knows.

The large box in the left rear of the last picture is new double ended two flute Enco HSS mills and the two smaller boxes are both new single ended HSS Enco mills. The blue tray has what appears to be very lightly used mills, plus keyway and three different size HSS dovetail mills.

That 5C collet closer is worth at least $325. Even if you do have to do a little bit of modification to get it to fit.

HI well theirs lots of things i use to clean up old tools with as most of you no most of my tooling cums from boot sales if their rusted solid i prefer soaking them in a mix of paraffin and diesel in a tub with a lid on and the key word is pashence on the other side of things for removing rust good old battery acid nothing eats rust like it once the component has bin in the acid bath you must wash well and oil the part to stop further rusting but i prefer after washing to use a rust inhibitor then once that has dried gave them a coting of oil right back to the thing in the tub if its a tool you is not formilay with on haw it works give it a google and see wot pops up and if nothing turns up get the camerae out and take lots of piks once all a part clean well the cleaner is up to you but common sens prevails ie if a part is panted un les you are going to repaint it don't use car pant thinner most of the cleaners are flammable so watch Wat you is downing with them as for dailies and lenses on dti gages well do you no wot the people that restore paintings yous to clean them well its their spit and that's all i use to kleen the ones i have dun with just mosen a Cotton wool but in your mush and wipe over the Daile as for the leans to remove scratches use t cut hope that helps

That load of tools is what we would refer to as a "You suck tool gloat", and deserves it's own thread! ;)

Wow, you definitely did well. While much of it appears to be Chinese import, that's OK for a lot of what you might use it for in a non-professional shop environment.

I have a few parts for Royal 5C collet closers lying around, and likely have the fulcrum parts you need. You would have to take the whole box, then in turn give away the stuff you don't need.
