I use the Motorex Chain lube I have hanging around from my motorcycle, for open gears. For rust preventive coating I have a can of the Sprayon 711 stuff. At about $5.00 a can I can afford to use it liberally.

Pay $30 for a year membership, which makes you a dealer. Save it on one medium or two small orders, when compared to what the dealer sells it to you for. I've been a dealer for 10 years and have never tried to sell anyone anything. My Case 680CK blew a crankshaft balancer when running Amsoil synthetic oil. I drove it for 6 minutes with zero oil pressure to get it into the garage where it could be torn down. When it was torn down, there was zero damage to the crankshaft and no spun bearings.
I was skeptical about Amsoil products until then.

I have been a lifetime AMSOIL dealer using my wifes name since about 1975, I used to use and sell lots of their products then they came up with their commercial program and would sell to my customers cheaper than I could buy it myself, that was the end of my Amsoil days especially whenb they have now taken a backseat to most of the other mfrs. Back in the late 60 an STP dealer in ALBERTA took a VW bug 1600 cc engine and filled it with STP and drove itg 3 hours from Calgqry to Edmonton, once there he pulled the drain plug dropping the entire contents and drove the return trip to CALGARY without anything in the crankcase with no engine damage. STP in my honest opinion, not nocking you or deflaming STP can keep their snake oils, I have 4 million KM on the cat in my big truck, it has been in framed 2 times, I change the oil once a year, run a centrifuge oil cleaner. It has never seen a drop of any additive except STP. " go figure " tom

Let's just kill the Amsoil conversation part of this, please. As much as I enjoy standing on my soapbox, I'll be nice and not mention it again if all others would do the same.
BTW, I haven't really noticed anyone pushing the stuff hard here. Really.

Are there any other brands that I should not mention?

Opinions about any products we use are often helpful to others, and are most certainly welcome here. Debates about any one of them being the best are not helpful at all.
I believe Pixman (a moderator here, BTW) is just asking that we keep the conversation limited to stating our opinions and letting other members decide what products they want to use on their own. Same thing applies to USA v.s. Import tooling and machines. They can peacefully co-exist if given the chance.
No harm, no foul.

I really don't mind if you or anyone else is mentioning any products by name. I certainly have my favorites. I just saw the conversation going down a road that's known to be rocky. I was defending you to state that I'd never experienced any sales push from you (or any other of myriad dealers of that product.)
What Willie said is spot on. A good example of my bias is CDCO vs. Tools4Cheap. I prefer one who comunicates well, others save $1 per toolholder and just sometimes have to deal with less-then-stellar customer service.
