I had to surface mine too, but for some unexplainable reason the front was high? Only 3 or 4 thou as I recall but had to be done or shim every part. I used a brazed carbide cutter, figured HSS would wear over that large an area.

Presumably it's all to do with how the dovetails of the vertical slide, and the appropriate gib strip have been worn over the years. That almost certainly varies depending how much you wind the table / box thingy up and down. I'd be a bit wary of just skimming it flat before a bit more investigation, as that amount of droop implies it's going to be a tad loose in the vertical location department !

Started catching up on that growing log pile. Sawing the first log a bearing on the axle supporting the blade wheels started howling, then rumbling. I used cheap Chinese bearing from Princess Auto when I built it. This is the fourth one that piled up. The ones I got today are Japanese. ! 3/4 inch self aligning.

Thanks, Ash Ed, with an oil finish, The top was lumber off my saw mill. Had to buy the 2 inch for the legs, thought I had some drying but can't find it.
