A story on the cast iron. I found two chunks of it imbedded in the concrete floor of an old plywood plant, The veneer dryer sat on these. They were about 8x8x2 with a hole in the middle slotted out to the one side. Originally thought they were steel, till I tried welding to one. The weld didn't hold. Assumed it would be hard as glass and full of porosity. Turns out its the nicest to machine cast I've ran across with a nice fine grain. Guess you never know what your going to find.

No projects going on so your going to get wood again.
The base for a table Im building. Actually had to buy the 2 inch lumber, thought I had sawn some but guess not.

Is that ash? It's kind of hard to tell from the picture. I thought maple at first but the grain doesn't quite look like maple.

The camera on my some what dumb phone isn't very good Ed, combine that with my photographic skills and I can make Ash look like Maple. Yes its Ash, been having a run on it lately, may have to put incentives on Butternut to use up some of that inventory.

Just got back from a tour of the local hydro plant. Its been operating for 100 years. Still using the original generators and switch gear. Noticed on the one generator makers plate, made by General Electric in Toronto, that it had been rewound in 1938.
