Great video Dallen, I'm still trying to gather enough knowledge to make a success of this myself- was going to pour my first mould last week but couldn't get my sand to play the game, the cope sand just kept collapsing. Might get a chance to try again this week. I did pour some ingots of aluminium a few weeks ago but no castings yet.
I thought it was the power lead for your blower that got iron spilled on it

yea that too but it didn't burn thru to the wires
if your sand is falling out it either doesn't have enough bentonite in it or your not ramming it hard enough.
How much bentonite did you add to the sand? 100 pounds of sand needs around 6 to 10 percent clay, also how long have you had the sand mixed.
Tried to pour the same two casting today again, the big one is still all scabby looking, so gonna give it another shot and flip it 180 degrees plus put a core in it to take up some of the space so I don't hve to pour so much metal into the head.
The two small parts I poured short IE ran out of metal, they were the prettiest castings that I've done in Cast Iron in a long time just short about 50 percent.
anyway nice thing was that the iron that I poured was nice and gray and machinable, the house and shed are still in one piece and the dog loves me cause I fixed him a big pork roast for sunday dinner.

Dallen, a few layers of cardboard from a cornflakes packet under the crucible stops it sticking to the riser brick. Burns off to flakey carbon that lets them part nicely.

Does it have to be a cornflakes packet or will wheatbix packets work as well?

I use 4 mil plywood which I had put between the two bricks.
I'm actually trying to get the d$%mn brick to stick to the bottom of the crucible.

not suppose to look like the print cause its not of the parts, prints are there to see who actually looks at the photo
