And so how are you adjusting the gib for smooth sliding action without being too loose?
I suppose you can feel the tension pretty good.

With the hoist in place and tension on the sling, I removed the gib completely. Once finished I lowered the knee back down until the pedestal was just about in contact with the base. I then put the four bolts in finger tight, let the knee all the way down and then put the gib back in. Whilst the pedestal is in contact with the base, I kept some tension on the sling whilst putting the gib in. Finally I removed the sling, and cranked the knee up and down a few times I tightened the bolts on the pedestal. It moves very nicely.

Thanks Steve - after responding to Ken by saying that whilst he was planning an alternative I would have finished, I thought I had better get the stop watch out to see if I needed to edit my post

So now what is left to do before you can make square features and perpendicular holes?

To start with, I need some 8mm roll pins. I've not seen any in fewer than 500 bulk. Today I thought I was on a winner when I saw a 120 piece assorted metric roll pin box, which listed 8 x 40mm and 8 x 50mm. I got the box home and found that the 8mm ones are actually ø7.75
Without these, I cannot locate the yoke and sort out the misaligned bolt holes...
