Cartridge Calibration Press

Hello,

My entire cartridge gauge design where you go from one end of Die to another, so the calibration is complete.

The machine has some oxidized parts and stems with hard chrome;

The Dies were bought from bought.

Nice design, but with the die upside down in the press, I would be concerned about internal scale/residue being released from the cartridge wall during the sizing operation of multiple cases, with the residue accumulating in the die and causing case dents.

The dies appear to be open (no decapping rod) so any crud would seem to fall through. Even right side up, I still need to clean out any built up case lube / dust / dirt from my dies now and then.

Nice looking press, but I'm still left wondering the full purpose of the design? Does the upper ram even have a shell holder?

By the way - I have that same machinist hammer I made back in high school metal shop, although mine is a bit worse for wear after 40+ years of use.

This press has been developed to calibrate clean cartridges.

The purpose of the project is to calibrate the cartridges completely, because in the ammunition reloading presses the cartridge enters and leaves the matrix and leaves a part of the cartridge that does not calibrate.

The drive lever is large due to too much force required to pass the cartridge; in the end has an aluminum ball.

The hammer was made recently by my daughter, it's hers, mine is well spent also done in 2004.

Yes, the press was developed specifically for this work; this is better than other 8 already produced, has better finish with oxidized parts and aluminum sphere.

Green is paint for painting machines, here we call "hammered green".

The work procedure is to wash and drum the cartridges before calibrating to avoid scratches.

Oh... I see now that you are squeezing down the case head, the web, and the rim as well turning it into a straight wall case. Interesting. What kind of life span do you get out of these calibrated cases? Are they 9×19mm Parabellum?
