Afternoon Lads
Well I decided to fix some of the bugs on the ye oldie CUB lathe today , this is an ongoing project I do a bit here and there ,mainly when something breaks
A bit background on the machine ,it was made local to me by a company called Churchill's ,made quite badly as well ,well it did for its time have some innovative features .
I payed £60 for the lathe and a 6 bottles of Brown ale to have it dropped at the door .
The lathe has had a hard life ,been abused and not well maintained and coupled with the poor build quality it came to me rather shagged , but cant complain for 60 quid lol
Jobs completed to date are made a complete set of apron gears and cross slide leadscrew .
A few before shots , note the clutch gear is not quite right , it is in the apron though lol and the three washers where a thrust should be
nice weld
new parts made.
No welding on my clutch gear
New leadscrew and nut
So today due to the feeds packing in I decided to make a start fixing the head stock problems , and there be a few
The cir clip and thrust should be on this shaft
Clutch forks need replacing /made
And the clutch shaft end is a bit buggered
The selector arm pivots need a re think as the peined over shaft ends are crap , lack friction ,this causes gear selection problems . top left of photo .
had to cut ends off to remove arms .
And there is a wee problem with the front spindle bearing ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it is showing signs of wear
Great stuff
