Found some Stainless steel at a reasonable price 30 x 3mm SS 304.
They don't have 316, so 304 will have to do.

After you stick weld it, spot weld some fake rivets on it.

MY kids are after one too - we've agreed (so far) on an old washing machine drum and all-thread legs, free for the use of!

Hit up some blacksmith channels on YouTube. You'd be surprised how easy hot riveting is if you can make a hot charcoal fire, have something resembling an anvil, a hammer, a punch for making holes, and some round bar stock for the rivets.

Of course, if you heat stainless that hot, it never be shiny without significant work.

I'm so relieved, BTW, after looking at the title, I thought it was going to be a political rant of some kind. :)

Cold riveting is easy, too. The jackshaft, motor mount, and throwout assembly on my Gingery lathe is all cold riveted together. Basically you need a hammer and something solid to buck it with. Get some rod, drill a hole to suit, cut the rod into rivet lengths and go at it.

I have got the stainless, still to get some welding rods. May be I'll go tomorrow. Smile
Haven't quite finalized the design but it is getting there Smile
