How to adjust?

Hi Haydon, as the lads have said I have rebuilt my Harrison L5 lathe there is a thread on it in the 'projects' section http://www.metalworkingfun.com/showthread.php?tid=788  You should be able to see how things go together in various photos.
  I think Steve is right maybe try adjusting the gibs on the top slide and cross slide first this should make it so there is no 'slop' movement wise but you might still have 'backlash' , the nut under the cross slide had an adjustment screw on mine so you can close the nut on the treads slightly to take up back lash, the top slide might have it too , I can not remember off hand. I dont know what mine has backlash wise off hand but can check it out , mine is also metric dials. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for all the replies, but i'm glad to say it's now sorted . For the cross slide the problem was 2 things: The tappered allen bolt that holds the cross slide nut to the slide was very loose, this ws the main problem. And the nut itself needed the thread tightening which is slotted and has 2 bolts to tighten it so that was easy and now i've got no backlash at all. And the top slide was straight forward to, the grub screw which holds the brass top slide nut in was missing it came from a collage so hardly suprising. And the thread itself is worn, it's slotted but doesn't have a way to pull the thread together so i've pinched it up in the vice and put a grub screw in and it's 10 x better but i'm going to try to get or make a new nut. I looked at and adjusted all the gibs as well but they were all fine.
