For those in America that might be thinking of ordering a Hemingway kit ...

Got to admit I bought the kit first then the book but it's very do - able straight from the book.

It's also a damn good read

Seems to be a bit pricey ... http://www.amazon.com/Engineers-Workshop...1857610008 ... being north of $250 new and $100 used. All of a sudden the shipping from Hemingway looks reasonable.

Unfortunately that book costs more than the kit plus shipping to get it in the USA. The only place that came up on a Google search was Amazon and they are selling used ones for $97.  Jawdrop

EDIT: Oops! Arvid beat me to it.

Ed,

We'll see how this works out ...

This ebay seller in the UK has them new for $41.81 plus about $15.81 shipping by Royal Mail. Estimated deliver will be sometime next week.

Still a sizable chunk of change for a book but it seems to have good reviews so we'll see.

Thanks for that Arvid. That seller is Chronos. I've bought stuff from them years ago off of their web site when shipping rates were more reasonable.
Let me know how the book is as I'd like to get one if it seems worth the money.

What else is in the book? I haven't spent more than $50 for a book in a long time.

Abe Books has a used one listed for $36 US. But it ships from the UK for $20.

And all of this begs the question --- why so much in the USA?

I would think that Amazon could buy a pallet of them [or at least a case] for less than what it is being offered by other vendors, have the case shipped to the US for a cost that would be reasonably low on a per unit basis, and easily sell the heck out of them for much less than the $262.09 that is being asked for a new one or $97.39 for used ones.

Truly strange as the "new one" on Amazon is from a 3rd party seller and is says "Shipped from the UK".

Found it at World of Books in the UK. Total, including shipping was $46.03US. You can find them at worldofbooks.com but when you search for it, "the model engineers workshop manual" won't turn up any results. Drop "the" and you'll find it. International shipping was 2GBP.
