For some of us, myself included our hobbies went viral and we ended up managing to scratch a living out of it. My shop is primarily geared towards small tool repairs but I also do welding, and machining. I take on small welding and machinng jobs, but also am using the machines to make or repair parts, tools or jigs and fixtures needed to work on and repair the tools. Over the years I have upgraded the basic machines, like the lathe from a 6 x 12 Craftsman lathe, to a 9 x 28 Logan lathe and finally to a 14 x 40 Gosan Lathe. I added the 10x50 Vertical Knee mill and between those two I have made many a widget.

The shop is all housed in a single car garage, thus why I only take on small welding or machining jobs as anything larger would not fit!

In my home shop I'm only doing "hobby" work. The reason my shop is as well-equipped as shown is, vanity.

Well, perhaps not. Because I made my living as a machinist for over 30 years before getting into a variant of that which doesn't require tools, I moved all my "work stuff" to the home shop and it's staying there.

Here is the "shop area" in my tiny garage... not finished, but getting there. Next thing is to insulate my selfmade doors and get more light!







Im planning to build shallow wood cabinets for all the tools over the workbench to hide the "messy" look. Maybe next year

Definitely a nice neat shop.

Light is very important and it amazed me how much of a difference it made when I finally got around to updating the light fixtures in my shop. I went to T8 fluorescent fixtures with daylight (5000K) bulbs. The first thing I had to do was clean because so much more stuff that I hadn't noticed before showed up with the additional light.

So very glad I found this thread, think I have a bit of a weird fascination to other blokes "sheds". its a bit weird!!. Find myself peering into peoples garages when I walk past and they have the door open... they must think im a burgular! Dont know many people really round here into pi**ing about making stuff down the shed.... So find this forum truely inspirational, and also look forward to my weekly youtube update & lesson from my idle, mr doubleboost. on his youtube channel.

I think that this is the first thread ive found on any forum (and im a member of many) of this nature, with any real amount of pictures.if anybody knows of any others on any forum, id appreciate a link!. Like I say.. I might have to go see a doctor about this weird fascination!!..  

Really emjoyed this thread, got some good ideas, and feel inspired. so much so, Im willing to embarrass myself with mine. Which in comparison to most is small and undertooled!. But Ive worked hard for it, and im proud of it. Im quite young (31) so intend to stock it up, as money permits. Ive promised myself a decent lathe next year.
I built the garage myself, and have just about finished, these pictures are about a month old, since these adapted the donkey saw to fit under the bench (but thats on another thread)
Im just collecting my tools from the four corners of the country that I have been storing until I had the space.

We call them "sheds" round this way anyway.














keep the pictures coming... theres a bloke sat in cold, wet, wintery leicester who has a weird fascination with your "shop" so get some pictures up!!

There are many shop build threads on the garagejournal forums.

That first picture of the stove made it look like the vent was not finished yet the fire was on. 

To even have a shop at 31 is an accomplishment. Lots of people out there that would just like to have a shop.
