No need Dave, I believe Vt's splitter has the moving wedge therefore split pieces could hang up on the bolts.
My splitters  (2) have NEVER had any bolt damage on the carriage or "pusher".

Yes, the moving wedge gib screws were what got hung up because the carriage moves through the split. A pusher like Steve's (and yours) doesn't move through the wood, so wouldn't get hung up.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to completely uncover the splitter today, 4 inches of new snow, and the road crew trucks throwing more snow over the already high banks meant shoveling. I did get the tarp up for about half the splitter but the rest is frozen into block ice. I didn't want to tear it, but I;ll get it chipped off tomorrow, and get you some photos.

Mayhem was right! The gib screws can be replaced....... Rotfl

Hi Dave, here are some photos.

The wedge is a casting and 6" long by about 3-1/2" wide -- 45 degree included angle. It is cast integral with the chevron shaped carriage. The wedge is hollow.

The tail plate is 1-3/4" thick and about 8" x 14". It has a ring shaped dog to keep wood from popping (mostly does!).

The red guards near the cylinder attach point are the fingers that will pull the wedge out of a stuck log if you retract.

The pump is dual speed -- shifts to low if the pressure gets high enough.

Overall the whole rig seems slow for my rate of working, even though dual speed.

It can be rotated to vertical for really big sections, though I never have -- I wrestle some pretty big stuff up onto the bed -- too lazy to change over -- though I'm not sure that's actually being "effectively" lazy...... maybe just dumb!

The tank is part of the axle assembly a big rectangular section tube that runs across the splitter.

The "ways" are an I beam with another slightly narrower plate (probably cold rolled) lapped on top and intermittent welded.

The controls are on the side, with a side facing lever. I don't have any trouble reaching it and holding onto a log at the same time.

Really nice log splitter Thumbsup  the thing I like the most (besides the 25 ton, 'cause that is just envy Big Grin )  is the manner how the cylinder is fixed.
Does one need a special cylinder to fix it that way?
