Cast spoke wheels. One popular brand name was Dayton, so they were often referred to as 'Dayton wheels'. They had a few other nicknames, too, such as 'manure spreaders' and 'Chicago wobblers'. The biggest drawbacks to them are that they can be difficult to get clamped down straight on the hub which was not a big deal on a slow vehicle like a fork lift, but was a big problem on high speed vehicles like trucks and trailers. Also, if one loosens up just a bit, the rim can slip on the hub, and one of the spokes will then shear off the valve stem. Instant flat!!

They are not Budd wheels. Budds are what would be referred to as 'disc' wheels, the type you typically see today.

As for changing tires, they were done by hand. Since there is no center section to get in the way of your tire bars, they are pretty easy to do by hand.

Thats it Terry, memory isn't what it used to be. Your right on changing them, the tire guys would come to the shop and change them but hand.
