Lathe spindle degree wheel pics
#1
Here is how i made my degree wheel for indexing my spindle. I used a stick on 4" wheel from http://www.mcmaster.com/#protractor-dials/=gulle8 and some 4" aluminum bar stock that i have on hand. The one pic is the cutter since the degree wheel only had a 5/8" center hole and i needed bigger so i made a cutter with a 5/8" center pin and tapered the cutting edge to make a smooth cut when wacked lightly with a hammer. I did it right on my wifes counter top with another alum disc with a 5/8" hole in the center underneath it. The aluminum was turned on an arbor then bored to fit my spindle end. Enjoy...Bob

Bob,

Nice thread and thanks for the source for the degree wheels. I'd like to add an indexing feature to my lathe some day and this thread will be of great help. Smiley-signs107

I see they come in clockwise and counter clockwise formats. Yours appears to be the clockwise format. If you had it do over again is that the format you would choose or would you get the counter clockwise format?

Or to put it another way, is the clockwise format a natural way to use it or do you find yourself doing math to git-er-don.

Either direction is fine for this project.
