Making A Welding Table
#1
Here we go. A build thread for my welding table. Here's what I have decided so far.
  • I've decided to go with a 42" x 30" x 1/2" table top.
  • Two swivel casters and two fixed casters.
  • Two drawers right underneath the table.
  • One corner will have a vise mounted to it.
  • All table edges will overhang the base 2.5".

None of this is cast in stone so is subject to changes. Smile

That is a good size DroolDroolDroolDroolDrool
I would make the front of the bench top parallel to the frame
You can then clamp sheet steel to it with a bit of heavy angle and bend it
Tap the holes for the vice so you can remove it easily

John,

Thanks!

Do you mean to have no overhang on the front of the table so the frame and front table edge are on the same vertical plane?

Yes then you can clamp a bit of heavy angle to it
Makes a good "bender"

That's a good idea.

I've seen some people put a tool carrier like the type of trailer hitch, then they can have a vise, anvil and other fun things attach but not get in the way and be changed quickly.

I've also seen that but I don't think it would work very well on this small of a welding table and on wheels. It is a good idea though.

I'd like to have some slots in the table top for clamps. Any ideas on size and quantity of slots on a 42" x 30" table top?

Slots will allow dirt to fall into the drawers, unless you build a tray above them.
Free advice is worth exactly what you payed for it.

I think I'll just put threaded holes in the top to hold clamps rather than slots. I'll add a tray above the drawers as you suggested.
