Good ideas all the way around, thanks.

The Warner & Swasey can be easily moved with a pallet jack should the need arise for a bar feeder, but right now I don't have the need and can't justify the cost. Should things change down the road, I have the room to do it.

I will give Pioneer a shout and see what they can do on the Kurt vises and Cat 40 tooling. I have budgeted 3K for tooling up the machine to get it going and will add accordingly as we move forward. The nice thing about Pioneer is I can send someone out and pick up everything via our truck to save on freight costs especially with the two vises being so heavy!

Well, as with all things this too shall pass.......and it did. Cancelled the PO for this machine.


Long story short...........


Went to the Haas Demo Day in Connecticut on 10/2/13. Shut down the shop for the day and took everyone to the show.

Saw some incredible new machines and pretty much walked around with my tongue hanging out of my mouth all day. Talked about some different scenarios and options with my salesman and walked around some more seeing some chips being made in the new machines on display.

For those of you into the Nascar scene, they had one of Tony Stewarts cars there on display, especially since Haas is one of his sponsors.

Here's my two boys getting their photo op.



Andrew (on the right) has been working for me full time now for over three years.

Christian (on the left) is home on leave from the Army for a couple weeks and I brought him along for the adventure.....plus everyone received a complimentary $50.00 gift card from Bass Pro Shops, and a fully catered authentic German lunch, including some great tasting German beer so why not share some of those perks with him as well, right?




So during lunch my wife and I discussed the pro's and cons of a new machine and it was hands down a no brainer......we HAD to have one!

After a great tasting lunch, we went back into the demo area and tracked down my salesman, discussed a few options and made a verbal commitment.

Was also pleased to hear that because I was buying the machine during the demo day there was a discount of $2,200.00......I was indeed a happy dude!!

30" x 16" x 20" travels, 30hp, 12,000 RPM, Cat40, 1,400 IPM Rapids, 833 IPM Feeds, 24+1 High Speed Tool changer, 1.6 second tool change, 2.2 seconds chip to chip time.

Nice machine indeed!

You'll finally be able to run high feed mills and see what MRR (material removal rates) really can be. Also, you can now have enough power to really plow through aluminum at high speeds. The limitations of 7500 rpm and 40ipm feeds has been a big impediment to productivity for you. Of course the reprogramming of repeat jobs will hurt a little bit, but payback will be super quick.

Update the payout to reflect the larger size of the machine?

That's Haas' chip auger. It's got a tapered feed screw in it to push the chips up & up into whatever kind of barrel or hopper Russ may have.
