My new toy!
#1
Well, the big move is fast approaching and things are starting to fall into place now.

One of my biggest concerns was being down for a week while the move is made.

My rigger estimates two days for moving equipment and on top of that, I need to get everything shut down disconnected and made ready to ship, so that will be at least a day before and most likely a day or even two after the move to get machines leveled and dialed in dead nuts before being put back into production.

I am NOT looking forward to this project, but at the same time cannot wait to get started!!

I did however just put to rest my biggest fear of being down for a week.

Just signed a PO for this little gem last Friday!! Now, I can have it installed in the new shop and have it up and running making parts before pulling the plug on the old shop!

I can only hope it is just that simple!!

Haas VF-0 Vertical Machining Center 20Hp, Rigid Tapping, Programmable Coolant, Chip Auger, 1Mb of Memory, 4th Axis Drive.

The machine is coming out of a training facility and for its age, (1998) has virtually no hours on it. My sales guy, (who I've known for years) states it has always been serviced and maintained by Haas and the machine hours are correct. Only 250 hours of cycle time.

That's just barely broken in!!

Will have pictures of the unloading and putting into my building when the time comes.

Later,
Russ

Hi Ed,

It's been an insanely busy summer! We've been working 5:00am-5:30pm nearly every week. Looking forward to some "normal" hours again real soon!

That machine will certainly help!

Best Regards,
Russ

I forgot to as if something is going to make room for this, or is there an empty space in the new shop that just needed filling?

This will be in addition to what we already have which will go a long ways to increasing capacity and shortening lead times.

The real beauty of it all is, it's the exact same machine as the one I currently have, only newer. This allows me to use the same programs, tooling, fixturing and set ups for all our production work which we have hundreds of different parts we manufacture.

It will be so nice to get 70 plus hours of work done in just a normal 40 hour work week, rather than 60 plus hours of work in a 60 plus hour work week!

Here's the cad layout of the new shop with all the machines drawn in position.

Russ,

I still think you should try to position the Warner & Swasey turret lathe in such a way as to leave room for a future bar loader for the Okuma.

BTW, have you checked into a coolant-thru upgrade to the spindle on the new machine?

Lastly, Pioneer Tool Supply is a stocking distributor for Kurt vises and could give you a good break on the two you'll want for the new machine (plus the multitude of CAT40 holders you're going to need.)
