Greg - I cannot see electrolysis damaging the non-ferrous metals but you could try it on a sacrificial piece first.

Posted on another forum A couple of people thought the electrolysis might plate the zinc out of the brass. Some one suggested molasses, yah right, did a search on the great goddess google and found all kinds of stuff,



Why not. At least the dog liked the taste.

Mixed 1 part molasses to 10 parts water, its slow as the proverbial molasses, takes 2 to 4 weeks but the posted results looked good, probably more applicable to sheet metal where you don't want to damage the tin, a wire brush would have been fine here. Hey its a science experiment.

After only 5 days there's an amazing amount of rust removed.

I would have zapped more off in 10 minutes just saying...

After 9 days we have rust free. Gave them a rub in a few spots with the wire brush and a rinse under the tap, pretty labour unintensive. Would have been more practical to just clean them up with a wire cup wheel on the angle grinder but this way I stayed clean and no dust in the shop.

The blower parts got a rattle can paint job and assembled.
