Odd leg caliper?

yesterday I spent my toy money on a cheapo 9euro digi caliper intending to make it into a odd leg caliper. But its still siting in the shop24 hrs later
the problem is I cannot make up my mind whether to cut the inner or outer anvil

If after you cut it twice and it is still too short, think of another use for it.

I don't understand why you'd want to alter tool like that when there are so many attachments available that would probably achieve the desired result.

So far the only way that has a plus is croping the static anvil that way you can measure in the lathe ftom a sholder towards the chuck without the scale getting in the way and hitting the chuck.

Cut the moving leg as when scribing a circle equidistant from the edge of a hole it is much easier to hold and pull on the tail of the calipers.

I have been considering adding a "ball" attachment to my Chinese centre distance calipers to use them as Jennys(odd legs) as supplied, the centre distance calipers can be used very effectively as Jennys as long as you don't want to use less than 5mm on the scale as the legs are 10mm wide and the points are centred on the legs.

The above link will show you what I mean by centre distance calipers, as the legs are length adjustable you simply extend the fixed leg or even flip it so that the square end is at the measuring end, as the tips are both hardened and rarely used for measuring (the tips fall into the holes being measured and measuring happens up on the tapers) I feel Ok scribing VERY light lines with the points, I only ever scribe in dychem or similar so as not to wear the tips, but with a ball attachment and a HSS scribing blade I will be much happier.
