hi all this may be of interest to sum of you i recently had to replace me cooker top it was one of them glass top type i wont wast out the old one was a good supply of self taping screws and stuff when i removed the heating element see pic their is a thermal switch which is controlled by a rod in a glass tube the printable being as the tube gets hot the metal rod expands and trips the switch when its cooled dawn the rod shrinks and the switch is activated so if you cut the top of the tube off you will have a length of glass tubing for water gages or whatever you want to do with it i used a diamond cutting wheel in me dermal to cut the end off the tubing the OD of the tubing is 4.5 mm and the bore is 2.3 mm pics
