Turbo,

Do you know if those are glass scales or magnetic?

Thanks,
Ed

I think I can answer that one for you Ed. I'm pretty sure that they are magnetic. I just bought a couple to install on my lathe.

Based on the looks and the accuracy from the AccuRemote site ... http://accuremoteusa.com/ ... I suspect that they are neither glass nor magnetic and are the ubiquitous capacitance encoders you see on most digital calipers.

Dont know if they are magnetic or not but a magnetic will stick to them. They work very well so far, I have used them a couple of times and seem to come back to the same point within .001 if that helps answer your question. I have no regrets for buying them yet.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with "ubiquitous capacitance encoders" as the are as accurate as the specifications and very inexpensive.

Usually glass encoders come with a lot more protection around them ... and need the protection ... and magnetic encoders seem to be reasonably expensive and have a much larger read head than the capacitance read heads ... though the manetic read heads seem to be smaller than the glass read heads.

They are the same brand and from what I can tell in the pictures they are of the same construction/electronics.
