I am looking forward to seeing the finished plate Bob, I have done a couple of the alloy cast ones, sand and polished the raised lettering then spray painted the plate then as you say either carefully sand back with wet and dry or I have also if the lettering is sharp edged wiped the paint back off the raised letters with tee shirt type cotton cloth damp with thinners folded up into tight ball, if the lettering has been buffed up before being sprayed it works great. This is on bigger type letters like on the Bridgeport alloy sign on the side of Bridgeport top ram.
Cheers Mick.
