All the drive ways are done and I got a few minutes in the dhop. I counterbores the 4-40 SHCS holes for the gibb holding bolts. All the cutters came today so tomorrow starts the finishing up. Hope to be done Wednesday.
MONDAYIS A BAD DAY OF THE WEEK NO MATTER WHICH DAY IT FALLS ON.
In a rush I did not check the mill over before I started cutting the first Dovetail. The spindle lock was loosened from c/boring last night. Dovetail cutters cut on all edges. The force on the angle pushing down dropped the spindle on each cut. Flange is almost cut completely off. I could have stopped but I wanted to dhow the new guys what can happen.
Pic #1 is both the old and the new (right). Notice the two flanges. An old lesson learned yet another time.
Pic#2 is the new part, this time with those cute radii.
Pic #3 is both old and new. We are ready again to do the dovetails.
Been there - done that. I stuck an end mill in a collet and finger tightened the drawbar to hold it in place while I searched for the wrench to tighten it.
Got side tracked doing something else and forgot about it....
Fired up the mill and started making the cut. About half way through it sounded funny when the end mill started sucking out of the collet and initiating the China Syndrome.
Luckily I got it stopped before it made it's way to the table surface.
Not hard to do even for us veterans. All caught up though. The male dovetail is done, only the female to go. Test fit the MT@ arbor also, no problems there. We are close now.
