Well we got outbid. Would have been a nice to have but someone else wanted it more.

Well finally found a deal on a Hardinge on an government auction, was in a research lab. Its the older narrow bed HLV no suffix as near as I can figure. Its old but looks like there is very little wear,
Been in storage for YEARS apparently, the grease on the threading gears is dried to hard shellac. Currently tearing it down, have it far enough now that I may paint it.
The pinion gear that connects to the rack to move the carriage is damaged, possibly the carriage was bumped in the warehouse, the rack looks fine. There is thumping and vibration in the spindle drive, think it may be the belts are dried out and set from sitting bent over the pulleys for so long. The motor is silent on its own and the spindle turns smooth with maybe 1/4 thou bounce on the test indicator, think its the surface Im running on.

I've never seen one with that type of speed selector. I assume we'll get more pics when you get her settled in.

This was the predecessor to your lathe Tom. Same basic design with a lot of the same parts but a narrower bed plate. More pictures to follow.

Congratulations Greg! Nice find!

It would have to have some really serious problems with ways an mechanicals for the machine not to be worth restoration. I believe it's always going to be worth well more than you paid, but the real value will be in using it.

Nice find Greg. I have liked them since I saw them at the Starrett factory and later in Tom's shop. Not so much a fan of the price though!

Well it pretty much fell apart.
Had to dismantle a far bit to get at what needed attention so decided to carry on and paint it up proper, guess Micktoon inspired me.
