I had the same question years ago. It was pointed out that the worm on my table was 90:1 so the big deal was the need to overcome the friction rather than overcome what ever mass based inertia from what might be on the table. A NEMA 23 was recommended. I have the motor, the tables, the stepper driver and the controller ... http://www.worldofward.com/rotarycontroller/ ... but have not gotten a round-to-it to try it out.
