Came that way Bill, for a Chinese saw it does well. Leages above the 4 x 6 or what ever they are. With the coolant, blades on this one last months, and the 3/4 blade cuts straight.
Really good point Steve, why weren't you here when I was making it. Sort of automatically went to 1/2 because of the hydraulic cylinder, but its going to end up with a relief valve set at about 300psi. The manufacturer recommends a maximum of 100 lbs force at the middle of the bar, so yah 1/4 would have been more than sufficient. Need to make another one today for the other side for the bar mount, it will need the thickness to prevent the bar flexing sideways.
