Todays Project - What did you do today?
The nut should have matching flats, so the nut will slide up and down. You have to get both of the nuts aligned with the flats. At least on my DP.

1/2 - 20 UNF.  I plan on doing exactly the same thing.  Just another job of many on my to do list.

Now that makes total sense, for the design seen, good one!

See shows the need to RTP (read the poop) aka op manual  ....

Been known to make the same mistake .. LMAO !!

I might at least take the D-shackle out of it.

Mike, I've got a swinging gantry set up over my machines, I do as little lifting as possible- had a 3-level fusion on my spine a few years ago and don't want another. Reason this sat on my mobile tool bench was that it needed to be on wheels to get to and from the gantry, either that or be in the way of the machines all the time.
