I decided I would make a video showing the cutting of the wedge 'pointy bit'
Mmm - I think I must have lost my presence of mind ![]() I needed to do a couple of trial takes (I'm not Doubleboost) ![]() Did a few cuts - start the video ............beep beep beep battery low ![]() ![]() ![]() Battery don't last log when taking video's ![]() ![]() Hard work this video thing. I try again tomorrow because it sure was a trying day today ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DaveH

This is what I'm using to cut the wedge pointy bit.
It's a 25 (1") dia insert end mill. As you can see I only use 2 inserts at a time directly opposite each other. Trying to use 4 is a little too much for my RF30 mill. I should mention those inserts are probably past their sell by date ![]() I'm using 1550 rpm and depth of cut is 1mm (0.040") and the feed rate is ![]() ![]() ![]() On the mill The videos - done quite a few about 11 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Any chance............... John (Doubleboost) you could nip over for a couple of days - bring your video camera and Debs ![]() ![]() ![]() DaveH

And now for the video
![]() I measured the feed rate (roughly) and it is about 470mm/min (18.5"/min) ![]() DaveH

.................... But wait there's more
![]() ![]() ![]() another video in 'slow motion' this time It looks like the spindle is going backwards ........ I can assure you it's not ![]() ![]() DaveH

Dave, those inserts look to be older than both of us.

How much metal are you removing Dave. It looks like a long, long process at that rate. I'd be tempted the remove the bulk with an angle grinder or perhaps send it to Bob. I have a feeling he could file faster...
