The $100 I said I could kick in is about all I can do. Where is she located?

RE: Model Engineer Magazines - TomG - 02-14-2016

She's in Latrobe, PA. Nearly 5 hours from here.

Hmmm... lemme think. I may be able to get them picked up for us if this thing goes thru.

I was thinking of buying in but thats a little rich for me and in reality 1407 issues, how long would that take to scan let alone read. If you spent an hour on each one and 12 hours a day it would take 1/3 of a year to go through them.

I'm afraid I'd balk at that figure too, I was probably imagining about a quarter of that to be honest. Seems a pretty ambitious asking price for a pile of old magazines with a limited audience. Would be nice to spread the cost a little more thinly i.e. more takers, although I'm very aware of not being able to offer any help with scan / upload etc.

I was hoping for about a $50 buy in, but I could stretch it if it came down to more.

I can't contribute financially at the moment (still recovering from Xmas!), but if a dropbox comes together. I have the first few years of Model Engineers' Workshop (UK), when they were useful and hadn't started repeating themselves - my almost-useless index attached. They're quite legible (including the drawings) pdf's, I needed the space! 8 GB of disk takes a lot less room than 160 magazines...

I put the kibosh on the deal. Purchasing and distributing 1400 magazines would definitely turned into a logistical nightmare. Had I known there were that many, I never would have brought it up. It is a shame though because they will probably end up in a landfill. I did tell the lady that when she is sick of listing them on eBay to give me a call and I would make an offer on the remainder. You never know.

I totally understand. A great idea Tom and thanks for trying.
