RE: metal cleaners - Mayhem - 05-24-2012 Hi Jerry, If you increase the number of sacrificial electrodes, you will get quicker results. I made a ring out of some weld mesh (non-galvinsed) to line the inside of my tub. I do like the use of the foam to ensure the work piece doesn't short out. Also - just a note to other - don't use a stainless steel electrode as the chromium is released during electrolysis. Most of the stuff I have read thus far points to the best results being gained using rusty electrodes, which is good because I had plenty of rusty old weld mesh :) RE: metal cleaners - DaveH - 05-25-2012 Hi Jerry, Nicely done DaveH RE: metal cleaners - Highpower - 05-25-2012 Don't forget to season that pan again right away, unless you just want to continue practicing on de-rusting it again.... RE: metal cleaners - ETC57 - 05-25-2012 Hi Willie, OOOOOOO yes they will get properly seasoned. The pans were given to me by my sister in law, she thought they were junk and hoped maybe I could use them in one of my projects. When my wife saw them her eyes lit up and asked can we clean them up for camping, and thus a project is born. Thanks for the tip Mayhem Jerry. RE: metal cleaners - RobWilson - 05-25-2012 They came out looking great Jerry Rob RE: metal cleaners - ETC57 - 05-25-2012 Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions, this has been a fun experiment with a practical application. I will be perfecting my new found metal derusting tool! Jerry. |
