RE: Model Engineer Magazines - awemawson - 02-10-2016 Are there not copyright implications of making scans available. Many of the authors of articles will have retained the copyright, so it's not only the magazine who needs to OK it but all the authors. In the UK copyright lasts for 70 years after the death of the 'artist' ie author in this case. RE: Model Engineer Magazines - RobWilson - 02-10-2016 So you're saying that if someone wanted a photocopy of an article in a mag that you had in your possession you would seek permission from the mag and the author before you copy said article ? Its not like I am going to be making a fortune out of someone and selling hundreds of copies ,its an odd article here and there from out of print publications just to help out , to me it's just like lending a mate the mag . what's the world coming to ! Rob RE: Model Engineer Magazines - awemawson - 02-10-2016 No - for personal use - one off a it were, I don't think there's an issue - but bulk copying into some 'retrieval system' is rather different in the eyes of the law. RE: Model Engineer Magazines - EdK - 02-10-2016 I'm also concerned about mass scanning and distributing. Maybe a better option would be to divide them up and after a certain amount of time rotate the stacks among the group of purchasers. I'm not against what Rob suggested though. Helping someone out with an occasional PDF of an article is not a bad thing, in my opinion. Oh, and I'm willing to contribute to the purchase of the/a lot. Ed RE: Model Engineer Magazines - Old Minger - 02-10-2016 I'll chip in with cost and scanning. As for copyright infringement I doubt anybody would chase a forum for posting selected articles to its members for zero financial gain. Worst that would happen would be the articles be taken down from the site. Alternatively individual members could post a list of their favourite projects which were then available by a PM. Just a thought. RE: Model Engineer Magazines - TomG - 02-12-2016 The lady is counting up the issues she has to come up with a lot price. She didn't know off hand how many issues there were, but it sounds like quite a few. So far it looks like we have 4 or 5 interested in the purchase. Anyone else? Maybe a way around the copyright thing would be for each of us to post what we have in a thread and swap PDF's with each outside of the website (not PM's). What do you think Ed? Tom RE: Model Engineer Magazines - Vinny - 02-12-2016 I could put a database together where everyone could enter what they have for easy searching. It would be hosted here (I do that sort of thing). We still have to get the data to put in it though. Tom |
