I had various Bambu printers in the cart over the last few months but just can't seem to click the Checkout button. I can't not think of the last time I bought a 3D printer , 2 actually. Had a PRUSA and a resin printer. Ended up selling both to a friend for $100. The were great dust collectors. Did a supurb job at it, in fact. I imagine one day I'll break down and do it but just not yet. Lasers on the other hand ... just bought two more. One was a near total disappointment but I haven't given up on it yet. The other's a keeper, but of course now that I have it, the price came down if you buy direct from the mfgr's webstore and is now $100 less than what I paid. Go figure!

Story of my life. I went through the same thing with a battery spot welder not too long ago. Ended up returning it to Amazon and buying it direct from the manufacturer for $100 less. In fact I find most items are cheaper to buy direct now. My Amazon purchases have fallen off considerably.

LOL...me too 17428
First was the X1-C, then QIDI released their Plus4 for less$$, and yesterday Creality released their new K2 Plus for same$$ as Bambu, but with more features and bigger volume. The QIDI ended up  having a design flaw that was burning up relay boards (but an easy fix to replace the SSR with a puck type). so currently the Creality is on my radar...well untill now when this RigRat thing entered my sphere.
Although I didn't want the printer itself become another project. Hence the K2 is still in the running, and probly gonna be the winner.
I want something that just prints, and is capable of the new high temp engineering materials out of the box.
My Ender 3 has done alot for me and showed me I "cant live without a 3D printer"...LOL.

When I bought it, Amazon was actually about $20 cheaper and faster shipping. Shipping from both were free. It probably won't be long before Amazon's price is the same as direct. It's the mfgr selling it on Amazon.

Edit: Now Amazon has it cheaper than direct. Figures.

Best to wait at least 6 months before looking at the RatRig seriously. They have a serious backlog, challenges related to parts procurement, the software is still under development, the build documentation still needs work ... in short, just about everything is still in beta but they're selling them anyway.
I'm sure it will be fine when it finally settles down, but I am guessing it will be at least 40 hours of work to get it up and running even when things go smoothly.
The challenge with the others that you mentioned is "Where do I put the empty cardboard box it came in."

Just do like Ed does. Print a storage box for it!
Full of ideas, but slow to produce parts

I had the Bambu X1C in mind but decided I would not be happy with the closed Bambu ecosystem. Of course I am also complaining about the PITA build of the totally open RatRig ecosystem. In summary, there is no pleasing me.

Having a printer is strange. It sits there doing nothing and then, out of the blue, I need a 'thing', and it is a lifesaver. I was doing a brake overhaul on the 2018 Golf R. I removed the rubber bellows type seal from the electric parking brake but was unable to install the new one as it was a strange fit. I am sure there was a special VW tool that could be used to reinstall the seal but I didn't have one. Took some measurements, drew up something that had the correct dimensions and looked something like this ... about 3 inches in diameter and 2 inches high

Printed it with ASA (a little over an hour) and it was the perfect size to push the metal lip of the seal over the edge parking brake mechanisms.

It's these little bits and pieces that are printed to fill in the little gaps in life that seems to justify at least the Mk3.5 printer.

Not completely closed. The full source code for BambuStudio is available on github from Bambu Lab and it's not restricted to windows and mac. It's also released for Linux (which is important to me).

I thought of that and I'll add weight if it becomes a problem.
