Todays Project - What did you do today?
Thanks guys. It should be plenty dirty this time tomorrow. Thumbsup

Up North for me is a place on the lake in Naubinway in the Upper Peninsula with access to 30+ thousand acres of logging roads and single tracks for the bikes.

Sounds heavenly. Here in the Bay Area we're restricted to a couple of Off Highway Vehicle Parks.

It definitely is the perfect place to ride, both in summer and winter. This is just private land, but there are also Michigan DNR sponsored trails that span the entire Upper Peninsula, and the Northern part of the lower. There aren't as many in the summer, but in the winter you can ride anywhere in the U.P. on the groomed trails with a DNR trail sticker on your sled, including the shoulders of the roads. I haven't tried it, but you can even plan a route from the lower peninsula that extends into the upper, using a shuttle service for bikes or sleds across the Mackinaw Bridge.

I needed some 1/2" long spacers tapped to 10-24. McMaster only has them tapped 10-32 so I made my own instead. These are to hold a plastic shield to cover the barrier strip screws in the picture below. The upper screws have 220VAC on them so I wanted them shielded from my clumsy fingers.  Smile

WTF, I posted a response to Darren's question but it's not showing up.  17428

So to answer his question, again, not quite ready. I'm hoping it happens tomorrow but it likely won't. Family obligations.

Haven't been able to do much given the injury to my hand but I managed to get a couple of things done today.

1. A friend wanted me to section a initiator for him.  These are used to launch chaff countermeasures from aircraft, as well as sonar buoys.  Not much to them:

2. The lifting rig that came with my lathe used an old seatbelt to lift the chuck on/off.  I didn't like the way it had been done.  An accident waiting to happen if you ask me.  So, I modified the movable pulley and made up a hook similar to that made by Dave J:

3. Finally, I started on the frame for an outdoor vise, similar to the one made by Rob Wilson.  Instead of using a round pipe for the centre, I used some box section.  The reason being is that I have another size that fits nicely into this one.  I intend to make up drop ins for a bench vise, pipe vise, bench grinder and anything else that I need to:
